The Greene County Development Corporation (GCDC) met for their monthly meeting via zoom on April 8.

They started the meeting by introducing Tim Heisterkamp and Matt Wendell as new GCDC members.

The County Supervisor Pete Bardole reported that ground had broken for the construction of the new county jail.

Code Enforcer Chad Stevens started his report by celebrating Jefferson’s win of the 2025 Great American Main Street Award. He also said he attended a collaborative housing symposium at Iowa State as an extension of their rural housing readiness assessment. The subcommittees have started working on action plans and they will meet again as a full committee in June.

The board showed appreciation for the recent grants given by the Grow Greene County Gaming Corporation and the Greene County Community Foundation, emphasizing the importance of the projects that will be funded through grants.

Amy McGinn with the Children’s Center said they had large playground equipment delivered last week, and they will soon hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the new playground. She said they are also installing strom window shutters. McGinn said the infant room at the Children’s Center has a large waiting list, so they will need to hire more staff. They currently have three full-time position openings, and you must be at least 16 to apply.

Wild Rose Casino General Manager Ian Wilkinson said they are having a soft opening for their new restaurant, and they will have a grand opening within the next two months. He also said they are hoping to host a behind the scenes tour of the facility sometime this summer. In July, they will be holding their 10th anniversary celebration with four events, one each weekend. There will be two concerts, one stand up comic and one murder mystery party. Tickets for each are available on Wild Rose’s website.

Heisterkamp gave an update on the building he is renovating, across the street from the Thomas Jefferson Gardens, for his business Journey Financial. They are currently working on interior dry wall, painting and flooring. They will also be adding solar panels to the roof. They hope to be finished around Memorial Day.
