Following the success of several projects tied to education, child care, recreation and business development identified in the Vision 2020 plan, Greene County Development Corporation (GCDC) sets its sights on 2030. GCDC leadership President Scott Weber and Vice-President Kristin Russell are excited to announce the launch of Vision 2030.

A successful Vision 2030 plan will require input from elected officials, community leaders and residents across the county. The goal is to identify projects which support continued industrial growth, sustainable business development and enhanced quality of life for Greene County residents.

Michelle Book, a 1979 graduate of Jefferson, will facilitate the Vision 2030 effort. A steering committee led by Weber and Russell will develop a time frame for the various steps in the planning process and provide direction for gaining input from key stakeholders and residents across the county.

Book served as Chief Executive Officer of the Food Bank of Iowa from 2016 through 2024, a non-profit that helps feed more than 175,000 Iowans across 55 counties through 700 pantry and meal site partners, several of which serve Greene County residents struggling to make ends meet.

Prior to her work with the Food Bank, Book led Global Community Engagement for DuPont Pioneer and served as President of the Pioneer International Foundation. Earlier, she served as Global Compliance Manager for John Deere Finance.

Book, who provides consulting services as Book Smart Solutions, focuses on strategic planning, identification of critical business problems and resolution, and service as an interim CEO for small to mid-size companies.

In her proposal to GCDC for the planning effort Book wrote, “By engaging the community, setting clear goals and developing actionable plans, Vision 2030 will provide a solid foundation for a vibrant and resilient economy. I am honored to be asked to lead the Vision 2030 planning effort.”
